So what am I stitching? We'll get to that once I have something to show, but it's modern, it's artsy and it's NOT a full coverage piece. (Whew!) Uncharacteristically, it is also not rock-related, but trust me, you're gonna love it!
Come back here to check on my progress over time. (Lots of time. Lots and lots and lots of time...)
Relaxing with a giant project - 5/9/23
11/26/2023
Well, it's been about 6 months and about 6 other projects since I began this, but it's time for an update. I only work on this project when I'm at home since it's so huge. It would be great to take it with me, but it's just not practical. Fortunately, I always have plenty of other designs to work on; it just means this one languishes until I'm (a) home, and (b) not working on a project for XStitch Magazine (or the latest shiny thing to grab my attention).
Six Months Later
I did remember to include a credit card for scale in the photo. (Sorry, identity thieves - the numbers are on the other side!) You can probably figure out what the design is, but we'll talk more about it in a future update.

I have turned some attention back to this beast after about 8 months. In that time I have released 5 new designs, and have several more in various stages of design/stitching so it's not like I've been doing nothing. This project feels like it's moving quickly, and yet it moves so slowly. That large gray block will go all the way to the top, and at 68 x 98 stitches, a full length of floss - 36" if you're me - covers about one and a quarter rows.
As you've deduced by now, this is a map of the Manhattan section of the New York City subway. With a stitched area of 32"x30", this is as small as can be while still ensuring readable station names. I have found that stitching these lengths of track has a very Zen quality about it. So much so, that I have to make sure I don't miss the single black stitches that represent a station.
